IngloriousApps's Blog http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com sweet apps for webOS posterous.com Sun, 15 Apr 2012 21:12:57 -0700 EOL'ing webOS Apps http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/eoling-webos-apps http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/eoling-webos-apps A couple of weeks ago, I saw someone tweet to a developer "If you aren't going to fix the bugs in your App, please remove your App from the App Catalog". That got me thinking, what's a developer to do? If you have no plans (or bandwidth) to support an app, is it best to remove it from the App Catalog? How long is a developer expected to support an App? 1year? 2 years? forever? If a developer can't support an app, should it be open-sourced? What if the code is too 'rough' to be open-sourced? Should the App Catalog come with a disclaimer like "The App you're about to buy may or may not ever be updated, and the developer may or may not discontinue this app in the future, so if you're willing to accept the app as it is, you may purchase at your own risk"?
Over the weekend, Dots & Lines announced that they'll be discontinuing their popular webOS twitter clients Carbon/Graphite. This obviously caused a few outcries. Despite the current state of webOS, there's a lot of people who STILL use the platform as their daily driver. And as a result, they need their apps (especially the ones they use a lot). Now, even though webOS doesn't have all the "big name" apps, i truly believe webOS has the BEST apps on any mobile platforms. The best notes app I've ever used on any mobile platform is Notes (mandatory self-plug). The best twitter app I've ever used on any mobile platform is Carbon (personal pref, non-paid endorsement). The best podcast app I've ever used on any mobile platform is DrPodder. I could go on. The thing that makes these apps (and other un-named apps) great is the developer passion. I know that sounds cheesy. A lot of the apps built for webOS were built by regular people who used the platform, felt a need to fill a void, and decided to step up to fill that void. Fast-forward 2 years, webOS has been abandoned, a lot of people have moved on, revenue has declined e.t.c. I'll speak for myself. I no longer use a webOS phone exclusively. A lot of developers also no longer use webOS phones. So, you can imagine how hard it is to continue developing for a platform you no longer use. Also, some developers have decided to diversify their portfolios by concentrating on other flourishing platforms (can't blame them).
Now, several months ago, I quietly discontinued one of my apps: MediaVault. Didn't think it'll be an issue (since it had very few downloads anyway). But I got a few emails asking "Where's your app? I can't find it". I had to send ipks to a couple of people.
In hindsight, it probably wasn't a good idea (even if only 3 people bought the app in it's 2 years of existence ).
Now, I've stated in the past before that I will no longer be developing any new apps for webOS, but I plan to continue supporting my pre-existing webOS apps. Now, my support may not be as rapid as the good old days (just being honest). But I do feel i have a responsibility to my paying customers. When I charge for an app, technically, what I'm actually charging for is support. If something gets broken (e.g. google api change), I plan to do my best to release an update. But as far as adding new features to current apps, I have no plans. Like i said, updates may be slow to roll out, because, I'll be honest, I have some apps that I haven't looked at the code in over a year (my fellow devs can relate to this). I've actually stopped promoting my webOS apps. It's hard to explain, but it feels wrong promoting an app on an EOL'ed hardware. Sure, the couple hundred bucks that still roll in from app revenue is nice. But I really do feel guilty sometimes. I really can't look someone in the eye and say "buy my webOS app", because I don't even use the app anymore. Not that the app sucks, but because webOS is no longer my daily driver. The only reason I keep my apps in the catalog is for current users to re-download as needed. Though, if 100k fresh users go download my apps right now, I won't complain :)
I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't be so quick to lash out on any developer that decides to discontinue their app. It's not an easy decision. There are many factors involved. And I do know a lot of webOS developers migrating to android/iOS got their "fame" from webOS. We aren't forgetting our roots :). I do think any current webOS user needs to be aware that they're using a "discontinued" product, and be willing to accept all that comes with it. I know that sounds harsh, but I can't sugar coat it.

FYI: I don't plan to discontinue any of my webOS Apps. I'll leave them in the App catalog as long as HP keeps the app catalog up and running. However, I can't guarantee they'll be continually updated forever.

Tue, 03 Jan 2012 15:58:16 -0800 App Inception in webOS http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/app-inception-in-webos http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/app-inception-in-webos
If you've used the Developer's Cut of my App Glimpse, you've noticed you can embed other apps to run as widgets.
A few webOS devs have asked me how I do this. Well, it's very easy. I'm using the undocumented enyo kind: "CrossAppUI".
I've pasted a snippet of my code from Glimpse here:

Now, here's the catch:
1) This will only work if the base App, is a "com.palm.something" app (which is why I have a secret Developer's Cut of Glimpse, which is not available in the App Catalog, because you can't submit a "com.palm" app).
2) Apps with "nowindow": true in their appinfo.json cannot be embedded. Don't ask me why...I didn't make the rules.

So there you go

P.S. If you don't know what I mean by "Developer's Cut of Glimpse", or how to get it, you really need to start following me on twitter (or fully exploring my apps)

Tue, 06 Dec 2011 20:18:00 -0800 Am I in Glimpse? http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/am-i-in-glimpse http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/am-i-in-glimpse
With the Developer's Cut of Glimpse, users can embed other external apps to be run as widgets in Glimpse. Now, a few Dev's have asked me "How do I detect if my App is embedded in Glimpse?", well, here's how to detect if your app is being 'glimpsed':
I'm currently passing the launch parameter: {crossAppID: enyo.fetchAppInfo().id }
So, you could have your launchParamsChanged function like this:

launchParamsChanged: function()
{
this.iAmInGlimpse = false;
if (this.launchParams)
{
if (this.launchParams.crossAppID)
{
if (this.launchParams.crossAppID.indexOf("ingloriousapps.glimpse")>0 )
{
//App is in Glimpse or in Glimpse Dev's Cut
this.iAmInGlimpse = true;
}
}
}
}

This is useful for devs that want to display custom UIs or functionalities, whenever their apps have been 'glimpsed'. You can also take a look at the cross-app launch parameters for Glimpse over here: http://www.webos101.com/Cross-App_Launching#Glimpse (in case you're thinking of doing something fancy).
Keep in mind, apps with '"noWindow": true in their appinfo.json file don't play nicely in Glimpse. The CrossAppUI kind (which I'm using) isn't cut for that :(
If you don't know what I mean by 'Developer's Cut of Glimpse', fireup Glimpse, go to the Help Menu, and click on 'View More Apps'

Sun, 06 Nov 2011 13:33:12 -0800 App Refunds (webOS) http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/app-refunds-webos http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/app-refunds-webos As a webOS developer, every now and then, I get an email from a user requesting a refund after purchasing my App. Usually, it's either because they mistakenly clicked the 'Purchase' button in the App Catalog (which I wish more people did :) ) or because the App didn't meet their expectations. Obviously, I'd like to provide refunds to customers who aren't satisfied with my products, but that's not quite possible in the HP App catalog. Unlike Android, there's nothing currently implemented for issuing refunds.
Now, I've received some emails from users who say "HP support told me to contact you for a refund". Last time I checked, it was called the "HP App Catalog" and not the "Inglorious Apps App Catalog". Developers have no control over transactions. So I wonder why HP is(?) telling users to contact developers for refunds. I hate having to tell a user "I'm sorry I can't refund you". I feel like a jerk, even though I'm being honest. In some cases, I've offered some users (the angry ones :) ) promo codes for my other Apps. Which is the best I can do.
Now, some may say "Can't you (the developer) just refund users using paypal or mailing checks?". Well, there's a couple things wrong:
1) Yes, I can refund users using paypal. And I can send refund checks in the mail. But with several Apps in the HP App catalog, and tens of thousands of users, that task becomes impractical. The last thing I want to do is spend hours of my precious time processing refunds and mailing checks. That kind of defeats the purpose of having a centralized App Catalog.
2) Technically, users don't buy Apps from developers. They buy Apps from HP. So, I'm in no position to provide refunds.
3) Last and most importantly, if I refund a user, can the user "Return Back my App"? Once you buy an App, it's yours forever. Even if you delete it, it's still tied to your profile available for you to re-download onto all your devices for free. As far as I know, there' s no infrastructure in place for developers (or HP) to remotely wipe an specific App from a user's profile. So, imagine a bunch of users buying apps, asking for refunds, getting their refunds, but still using the App (since it's theirs forever). You can see the loop hole there.

Some may say, "Why not just create a Demo or Trial version of your Apps, that way users can try it before buying it?" There are many reasons why this may not be possible/practical for certain Apps, but I'm not gonna go there.

So, my advice to webOS users is to stop asking for App refunds. Stop contacting HP. Stop contacting Developers. You'll find yourself in an endless ping pong game between HP and your Developer. And in some cases, not worth the hassle. Obviously, if you have a valid transaction issue (like an overcharge), you should contact HP. If you bought an App that didn't live up to your expectation, take sometime to understand the App, ask the developer to fix bugs (if that's your issue) or offer suggestions for improvement.

Mon, 05 Sep 2011 14:50:27 -0700 Improving the webOS App Submission Portal http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/improving-the-webos-app-submission-portal http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/improving-the-webos-app-submission-portal
Before I get started, I just want to clarify that this is not a rant. And also, the Guys/Gals at Palm are an exceptional group of people, doing their best given their current resources.
Now, after 2 years of webOS development, I figured I offered some suggestions on how to improve the App Submission Portal/Process (even though no one asked me). Some of my suggestions should be easy to implement, others might be difficult/impossible, either way, I'm still going to list them. I'm sure many other developers can relate. Off the top of my head, here are my suggestions:

1) Emergency App Updates:
This is probably a slippery slope, but it would be nice if developers have a way to instantly push an 'emergency' app update, without having to go through the entire review process. Now, I don't know (and I don't care) how Android/iOS do it in their ecosystem, but we need to have this. Every developer has had that moment when they have to quickly release an App update, but the App is sitting in the Review Bucket (while the Dev is getting slammed with '0' star reviews :) ). Usually, the App Review Team is very efficient at pushing out updates, but occasionally, they may be overwhelmed (like when the catalog opened to Australia/NZ). Now, I don't know how it works on their end. I don't know if there's a separate queue for 'New Apps', 'Updated Apps' or 'Meta Updates' or if Apps are reviewed on first-in first-out basis, but there needs to be away to 'flag' an app update as 'important'.
Maybe Implement a criteria whereby an App can only get a max of 5 'emergency' updates per month/year or maybe have 'emergency' updates available to 'black belt' devs or devs that meet some criteria or something

2) Meta Updates
When an App's meta-data is updated, it shouldn't have to go through a review process (I don't know if it does). It should be instant. Enough said.

3) Geo Restricted Promo Codes
This horse has been pretty much beaten to death, but geo-restricted promo codes is a pain. I understand (well I don't) the reasons for it. Right now, if you want to create promo codes, you have to create one for each country. The process of doing it for one country isn't bad, it's fairly straight-forward. The pain comes when you have to repeat the steps for multiple countries. Which is why most Devs default to US only. I'm pretty sure the geo-restriction won't go away, so here's a solution to make it less painful for Devs. Make it possible to create promo codes in one shot. Have checkboxes for each country (along with a 'Select All'), and have fields for no. of promo codes for each. I'm pretty sure someone has already thought of this...

4) CSV for Promo Codes
Speaking of Promo codes, it's nice to have the ability to download them as a csv file. It'll be nicer if you could actually see the promo codes in the web GUI, without having to download to csv first (especially for single promo codes). This makes life easy for copying/pasting. I'm probably the only one with this dilemma, but the other day I was on my phone, and I wanted to retrieve a promo code (from the Dev Portal site) to tweet. But I had to go to ALL THE WAY my computer, because i can't open csv files on my phone (or TouchPad). It's not a big deal, but it'll be nice if someone looked into this.

5) Free<-->Paid
This one isn't a personal gripe of mine, but it turns out you can't change an App from 'Paid' to 'Free' and vice versa. Unless if I'm wrong. I've seen a few Devs struggle with this. Again, I have no clue why, but someone should look into this.

6) ScreenShots on App Updates
For some reason, after the touchPad came out, when submitting an App update, you have to re-upload app screenshots. This is a pain (especially for crazy devs like myself who like updating their Apps). Fix this.

7) Notifications
I don't know about other Devs, but I've NEVER been notified when my App gets published. I have to constantly keep checking. Thankfully, @chofter's 'My WebOS Apps' App is awesome in dealing with this. But an actual official email notification would be nice.

8) Deleting an App
Apparently, you can't delete an App. Ever. It remains 'Suspended'. it's annoying. Fix this, or give the ability to hide suspended Apps from the 'My Apps' view.

9) Rejection Pending
I'm not sure why a rejection has to be pending. If I click 'Reject', it should be instant. Especially if I want to re-submit another update. Devs, you know what I'm talking about

I know I'm missing a couple other things, but the list above is all I've got for now. I know International Devs  also have hurdles too. Hopefully someone looks into these...especially since webOS is now undergoing a re-birth

If you are unable to log into the Google Reader widget in Glimpse, you're probably signed up with Google's 2-step verification.
You would have to create an Application Specific Password which you then have to use for login.

Tue, 16 Aug 2011 12:01:24 -0700 Expensive Apps http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/expensive-apps http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/expensive-apps I've been thinking about writing this for over a year now. But today I suddenly got the inspiration.
After releasing my Touchpad App: Glimpse, I've seen a couple of reviews and comments like 'This App is expensive' or 'This App is Overpriced' or 'Not worth the money' and so on. This is not new to me. When I released my award winning Notes App last year, I got similar sentiments. And a lot of developers have experienced the same thing.

 In a way, it's true. In a land of free/99cent Apps, a $5 App comes off as been expensive. But I think the term 'expensive app' is subjective. I know I've had some users tell me my App was too cheap. Heck, I use some Apps that I think are quite frankly too cheap considering the amount of mileage I've gotten out of them. For example, I use Carbon, drPodder and Neato EVERY DAY. And considering I only paid like $2 (a one time fee) for each, it's almost like robbery! That's less than a cup of starbucks coffee. Again, the term 'too cheap' is also subjective.

So I guess the question is: what's the reasonable price of an App? Back in the days, we used to pay a whole lot more. I think it boils down to how much you as a user think it's worth. The way I see it, there are 2 types of Apps: Disposable & Non-disposable Apps
1. Disposable Apps: These are like fast food Apps. You bump into them, download them, use them like 3 times, and never open them again (unless you get bored or you mistakenly tap their icon). A lot of games fall into this category (speaking for myself).
2. Non-disposable Apps: These are Apps that you NEED. You use these Apps at least once a day. It serves a specific purpose. A lot of utility Apps fall into this category. If you love music, you NEED to have a good/dependable App to listen to music. If you are a twitter junkie, you NEED to have a good dependable App (like Carbon/Spaz/Phnx/BK).

For most ppl, the $1-$5 one-time fee is a small price to pay for a non-disposable peice of software with unlimited updates and developer support. On the other hand, $1-$5 seems like a lot to pay for a (disposable) software that you didn't even need in the first place.

Now, I know a lot of users (especially webOS fanboys) feel like they have to support their developers by buying as much Apps as possible. That's great. But I think users need to think beyond that. I don't believe in buying/accumulating Apps just for the sake of saying 'I have a lot of Apps'. And this brings up the whole argument of App Catalog size. You don't need 100,000 Apps. You just need a few good Apps, because at the end of the day, you only actually use a few Apps.

I also think the 'expensive app syndrome' comes from the fact that people feel they have to buy every App. We've been trained to consume Apps. People think "If I buy every App, then I'm going to go broke". Well, only buy the Apps you need. Do you go broke when you buy your {Insert your product here} everyday?

The App pricing dilemma also affects developers. It's sometimes hard for developers to determine how much they want to charge for their Apps. They (we) have to weigh in several factors (user base size, similar/competitive app prices, server costs, time spent, customer support, user backlash e.t.c). Adding a '$' sign next to your App may mean putting your app in the 'Ignore zone'. People would most likely scroll past it, especially when they have 100,000 other free apps to scroll to. So it's a tough call for devs. This may be shocking, but some developers would actually like to make some decent income from their App sales. More App sales = Motivation = More Apps = More App Sales = Motivation...and so on. I'm not saying every user should go on an App shopping spree to motivate developers (though that would be nice). I'm just saying the feeling is mutual.
This may sound ridiculous, but when I scroll through the App Catalog, and I see an App greater than $2 (Premium App as David Baxter calls it), I get interested. Maybe it's because I'm a dev, but I feel any 'non-cheap' app (subjective) has to be good. I feel the developer is fulfilling a specific need and targeting a specific audience, hence the App price. I'm not saying every 'non-cheap' app is awesome, and I'm not saying I ignore the free/'cheap' apps (because they're a lot of good free/cheap apps like SpazHD, Mosaic, Neato). And lets face it, we're all cheap. If Google started charging everyone $1/year for search, we'd all loose our minds. A lot of webOS users have been dreaming/wishing/crying/hoping for some 'big name' apps like Netflix, Doc Editing and so on. But here's a question: If a {Insert your Dream App here} App came out today, would you pay $10 for it? $20? $50?

People may also get the 'this app is expensive syndrome' when they buy an app (they thought they needed) that does A,B,C but they assumed (or hoped) it also did D,E,F. In this case, the App falls below their expectation, and that's understandable. Just like in real life, when you pay $50 for a meal, you expect it to be delicious and satisfying (unless you go to a fancy restaurant :) ). Again, the concept of 'delicious' is subjective.

I guess what I'm trying to say (incoherently) is, the next time you find yourself thinking an App is expensive, ask yourself "DO I REALLY NEED IT?" Or if you've already downloaded it: "DID I REALLY NEED THIS APP IN THE FIRST PLACE?" or "WHY DID I BLINDLY DOWNLOAD THIS APP, WITHOUT DOING MY RESEARCH?"

Sat, 25 Jun 2011 18:16:00 -0700 Glimpse http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/glimpse http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/glimpse
For those curious, here's a 'glimpse' of what I'm currently working on for the HP TouchPad...

Everyone knows webOS is king when it comes to 'multi-tasking'. But, there's one problem. You can still only view one App at a time. Well, I decided to fix that.

Glimpse(app name subject to change) is a Touchpad App designed to maximize your productivity by allowing you to run up to 3 Apps at the same time, using a unique (customizable) split-screen interface.

So, you could be watching a youtube video while viewing your rss news feed. Or taking a quick note, while loading your tweets and viewing the current weather. The possibilities are endless...

The App will come pre-installed with some core mini-apps (also called widgets) which you can run on any of the split screens. You can also add your favorite apps (like Spaz, Bing Maps) to run as widgets within this App!

Think of this as "Multitasking on Steroids"

Disclaimers:
1. Screenshots have been approved by the good folks @HP Palm
2. App name is subject to change
3. Final product may vary.
4. There's more to what you're seeing in these screenshots
5. App will not be available at  TP launch (but it will be available to me, obviously)
 6. No animals were harmed in the making of this App..I think

Mon, 24 Jan 2011 15:47:00 -0800 clipboard-faqs http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/clipboard-faqs http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/clipboard-faqs

Clipboard is an App for storing any text you copy. See Demo video here: Video Demo

When you copy text (Gesture +C), you can add the text to the clipboard by switching to the App, or tapping the "+" icon in the dashboard. All your 'clips' are store in a row as seen below. The most recently added clip has a slighlty different color

Clipboard1

By tapping on each clip, you're presented with more options such as Texting, Emailing, Tweeting, Sending to Notes, "Neato"-ing, Navigating to an address, etc.

Clipboard2

When you have clipboard open, and you switch to another App, A dashbord icon shows up at the bottom of your screen (see image below). Tapping the icon reveals several dashboard controls.

a) To Add a recently copied text (or switch to the clipboard app, tapp the "+" icon

b) The number above the "+" icon is the number of clips in your clipboard.

c) To the right, is a region that says 'Tap to paste'. When you're in any app with a textfield (Like Notes, memos, Just Type, Email etc), Tapping the dashboard pastes the text into the textfield. This works on any text field that is in focus (when you see the cursor).

You can also use the left right arrows to navigat through the clips to choose what to paste

Sun, 17 Oct 2010 21:33:00 -0700 Know your Shortcuts... http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/know-your-shortcuts http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/know-your-shortcuts

As a webOS user, one feature I really enjoy is the 'gesture area'. And one feature I find myself using daily across several apps is the keyboard shortcuts (gesture tap + key).
In Notes, I've implemented several shortcuts. Some users may already be familiar with some of these, others may find something new (especially since I keep adding new stuff). Either way, I've listed all the currently available shortcuts below:

Main View
Forward Swipe = Create New Note
Header Tap  = Scroll to top of notes
Gesture + Header Tap  = Scroll to bottom of notes
Gesture + I = Import from Google docs
Gesture + = Export all notes to Google Doc
Gesture + Note Tap = Show more options for individual note

Note View
Forward Swipe = Attach Media
Gesture + Z = undo
Gesture + Y = Redo
Gesture + = Google the selected text
Gesture + M = Open address in Google Maps
Gesture + K = Wikipedia
Gesture + N = Navigate to address
Gesture + D = Delete Note
Gesture + R = Add reminder
Gesture + S =  Decrease font size
Gesture + W = Increase font size

Gesture + A = Select All
Gesture + C = Copy selected Text
Gesture + X = Cut selected Text
Gesture + V = Paste
Gesture + B = Bold
Gesture + U = Underline
Gesture + I = Italicize
Gesture + T = strikethrough

Note: for some of these actions, you have to select/highlight a portion of your note (using the shift key). For example, if your note contains an unknown word, you can just highlight that word, and do the gesture-tap + 'g', to google the word.

Now that I think about it, I wonder how all these keyboard shortcuts would work on the 'PalmPad' or any super new device without keyboard??

Sat, 26 Jun 2010 12:59:00 -0700 Trouble Importing Notes from Google Docs http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/trouble-importing-notes-from-google-docs http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/trouble-importing-notes-from-google-docs

Due to a recent change in the Google docs document settings, some people may experience trouble importing some notes into the Notes app for the Palm Pre/Pixi. Until we release an update, here's a workarund:

1) Go to the docs.google.com on your PC web browser. Go to "Settings" --> "Document Settings"

Settings1
2) In the "Editing" Tab, verify that the "Create new text documents using the latest version of the document editor" check box is unchecked.

Settings2
From this point, newly created documents will be created using the old document editor version currently compatible with Notes

Tue, 22 Jun 2010 19:06:00 -0700 10 Apps to get before you die http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/10-apps-to-get-before-you-die http://ingloriousapps.posterous.com/10-apps-to-get-before-you-die

With this summer Palm app sales going on, I figured I chime in and recommend some of the Apps I find to be useful and exceptional on Palm's webOS platform. So here are the 10 apps you need to get before you die (well, before the 50% off sales ends on Jul 9th):

1) Notes: Notes is an amazing note-taking app for taking notes and adding media (e.g pictures, video, audio clips) to your notes. I'm not just saying that because I made the app. It's truly amazing and easy to use, heck I'm actually composing this entire blog post using Notes. Notes also has a few other features here and there like reminders, categorization of notes, pincode protection, and google docs. Simply put, Notes is like memos on steroids (according to the guys at www.webOSroundup.com)
2) N.O.V.A: You never realize you have a beastly phone in the 'palm' of your hands until you fireup nova on your palm pre. Nova is a great first person shooter game. I'm not really a big gamer, but Nova blew me away. Oh, it also has multiplayer. You can game with people online. This works seamlessly. Kudos gameloft!
3) Tweed/TweetMe: I can't makeup my mind as to which twitter client I prefer. I love both equally (but differently). Same way a mother loves her children.
4)
Ancient Frog: This is one of those apps, I fear may go un-noticed because of it's title. Ancient frog is a simple 3d puzzle game, where you have to feed a frog. I know it sounds lame, but it's a visually pleasing experience.
5)
Orbland: This is a labyrinth game where you tilt your phone and guide an orb through obstacles. There are few variations of this in the catalog, but orbland stands out (for me at least)
6)
Weather Dashboard: It's a weather dashboard that sits on the bottom screen of your phone. Enough said.
7)
DrPodder:
If you listen to podcasts, and you have a webOS device, chances are you already have drPodder. If you don't, what the heck are you waiting for?
8) Pack 'n' Track: Great app for tracking your shipments. It's been around for while. Quite useful, especially in this mobile age we're in.
9)
Paintbox: Don't ask me why I like this app. I just do. It's a simple app for making scribbles and sketches on your phone. You can even use your own image as a background canvas and make annotations, and then save it. It's no mobile photoshop, but it's pretty handy.
10)
Grooveshark: Okay, grooveshark isn't a paid app. It's free (you have to pay a monthly subscription though). But I can't tell you how awesome it is to whip out your phone, type in any
 song and have it instantly play on your phone. With grooveshark, you can search for any song, artist or album and just stream the song. You can even make playlists. I'm not a fan of subscription services, but $3/month isn't bad (IMO) for having instant access to any music. Lord knows I spend more on a 5 dollar foot long sandwich.

So, there you go kids, these are the 10 apps your phone needs. If you don't have any of these apps on your phone, you might as well be using a dumbphone (or even worse, an ifone)
